CONWAY, AR (City of Conway)-The city of Conway has decide to close its warming center at noon today. The McGee Center opened Friday at 5pm as a warming center and turnout was very low.
With temperatures expected to improve and no reports of power outages, we do not anticipate there will be a need to keep the center open. Should a need arise we will address it at that time.
The city's street department did an excellent job of attending to the main roads but please be mindful we are not in the clear yet, there are still ice patches in some areas and many of the side streets are still pretty slick.
According to CPD Patrol Officers, accidents due to road conditions have been minimal thus far as not many people got out and the ones who did took it easy.
If you get on the roads today exercise caution. At this time Salem Road from Meadowlake to Old Morrilton (highway 64) remains closed.
The Conway Fire Department , Police department, street department, Parks & Rec, city officials along with Conway Corp and the Red Cross all worked together to try to minimize the impact this ice/sleet event would have on our community. Thanks to everyone for your cooperation, be safe!
